I was about to make a comment on original thought especially with the network war going on in the TV airwaves here in our country when I got to just thinking of arrogance and mission. The former topic was quite enticing, with its twisted plots of libel and thievery of intellectual property but then arrogance and mission were, to my mind, part of the root of it all, well, in terms of original thought.
I have come across people, especially braggard adolescents, who wave the "carpe diem" phrase during lunch to sound cool as it was their own invention and forgetting that it came from the golden age of philosophy more than two thousand years ago. Some even had not known there was a golden age of philosophy, yet their holsters have all those "carpe diems", ready to shoot and blow off the smoke from the gun barrel, it looks cool. When you get into a meeting in the boardrooms of the glass buildings of the world, there would be the occasional, "I was the one who implented project blahblah, with, uhm, the sales figures at this and this range." But the one who really did the project and did the numbers was the workhardy guy at the side.
Network A noticed that the footage shown on Network B was coming from their telecast which was bought and used legitimately by a foreign network, which had ties with Network B. This led to accusations of stealing footages while the other had cited instances of alleged use of their footages in the past. It was the assertion of being Number One, of wanting better ad rates, of hogging viewership percentage, that led to scuffle, foregoing the mission of quality broadcasting, especially on the news front. Scientists, well some of them, think of the atom, or the cell, or the theory, and not the Nobel Prize. Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, the UN, never thought of the Peace Prize first, they saw their mission and gone on through without even hoping for the Peace Prize. Well, Greed, Ambition, and Ruthlessness, that's the Cobra Motto, not mine, unless you want to put that phrase in your holster and wag it like you own it.
